Automated Inflation and Pressure Regulation for Recreational and Professional Cyclists
South Africa
Purpose This project is aimed to indicate the importance of tire pressure and to introduce a product that will be able to adjust tire pressure while cycling. This product will give cyclists an advantage on different terrains as well as eliminate some common problems amongst cyclists. Method This method consists of a device that can control the pressure in your tires. By giving a cyclist full control of their tire pressure it advances their speed over different types of terrain as well as solves tyre-related problems like deflation without the need to dismount. This device will be useful to cyclist that often gets flat tyres and regularly comes across different types of terrain. A problem for most cyclists when competing is getting deflated tyres or having the wrong amount of pressure in their tires. Getting off their bicycle loses time and can cause them to lose their position in the competition. Results A device was successfully designed and built that can monitor and change the tire pressure while cycling. Conclusion This device will solve the problem by giving a cyclist the ability to inflate tires without the need to stop or climb off their bicycle. It will also give a cyclist the opportunity to adjust their tire pressure to adapt to their terrain. Being able to adapt to the terrain will maximize a cyclist performance thereon. This device will contribute to the cycling community to be a faster more effective way of controlling the air in your tires during competing or commuting.
